Around 18 or 19 weeks I started feeling the little butterflies in my stomach for the first time and it was very obvious that I was pregnant...to me and to others! By about 21 or 22 weeks Erich could feel it kicking with his hand on my belly which was really cool for me to have him start to "feel the pregnancy" since up to this point it was basically just me telling him what everything was like. These are our 20 week ultrasound pictures which we think are pretty incredible. It is just awesome to see the 3d images of the face. Also, we no longer have to speak in gender neutral terms because we found out it is a BOY!!! We are so excited (and the nursery is already painted blue)! Erich immediately started fantasizing about how good of an athlete he was going to be and is hoping he inherits my calves....Everyone has seemed pretty surprised so far that it's a boy, for some reason most people were thinking girl...It will be the first grandson and great-grandson for my family, but he will be joining the growing brood of boys in the Ottervanger family! Here comes trouble : ) It's really great to know that Erich will get to carry on his family name. It's still hard to tell who he is going to look like, but he does have a prominent nose which Erich thinks is mine. I think his brow line and forehead look like Erich's. We can't wait to meet him in person, though! This weekend we're going shopping for cribs, strollers, car seats, and everything else baby to start working on our registry. Perhaps I'll get Erich to take some belly pics of me. I haven't had any yet, as I'm not really a fan of documenting myself getting bigger and bigger. We have another appointment next week, so we'll have more updates then. Love to All! Kiley, Erich, and Baby boy O!!

Repeat testing ultrasound: 12 weeks 4 days
It's amazing how quickly they change in just a week. Here is our repeat ultrasound. Because I'm posting these so late, I've already forgotten the different measurement stats but it's growing right on target. It was also incredible to see the heart beating and all of the movement of the limbs even though I couldn't feel it yet.

11 week Ultrasound
Here are some of our first ultrasound pictures that you can actually tell it's a baby! It is great to see the little bum in the 3d one. We had this ultrasound to perform a screening test for various genetic disease (all of which came out negative!) Unfortunately/fortunately the little baby wouldn't lay in the right position long enough to do the test so we had to come back for another ultrasound.

The Fitted Sheet....
Here Martha gives the audience her instructions...now I just need to get a folding table set up near the laundry : ) It really works though... Here are my before and after pics from one of our fitted sheets taken directly from our linen closet:
Voila!
Becoming a Modern-Day Housewife

Well, it seems this is a project long in the making...first of all I've always been a fan of those horrible reality tv shows "Real Housewives of...." but I don't have the luxury of having an endless supply of money to lead that kind of lifestyle (nor would I want to), Samantha of Bewitched was an excellent housewife but I can't just wiggle my nose and clean my house or make dinner. Both Erich and I are constantly wondering why we can't seem to keep the house clean week to week. I admit I am extremely envious of those people that can stay organized, keep their homes clean, cook and bake homemade recipes, workout and stay in shape, and have a successful career and nurtured relationships. There just aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done!! Well, our church is kicking off a series on THE BIG DREAM!!! It's supposed to be a chance to try to achieve those silly dreams you've always had, without fear of failure, knowing you are never alone. For a long time my biggest, scariest dream was to be a doctor and I seem to be on my way to achieving that goal so now I think it's time to focus on more of my personal life-especially with a new baby on the way there is no better time than now to get control! Besides everyone looks at their mom like they know all of the secrets to cooking, cleaning, and making the family happy while also working "out in the real world", so I better get prepared because right now I'm pretty sure I leave much to be desired in the "homemaking department"
I was also inspired when i caught the tailend of Martha Stewart on Oprah this afternoon. She was showing how to fold a fitted sheet. Come on, how many people really know how to do this, they just attempt it and shove it in the cupboard, right?? Well, here I go....I am determined to start mastering the art of becoming a "real" Modern-Day Housewife!!!
To start my mission I may as well tackle that fitted sheet...

Great New Recipe
Edamame Dip with Pita Chips

Ingredients
- 3 pita breads, split horizontally, each round cut into 1 1/2-inch wedges
- 1 12-ounce bag frozen shelled edamame (2 1/3 cups), unthawed
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons minced fresh basil plus sprigs for garnish
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Scatter pita pieces on large rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt. Bake until crisp, 15 minutes; cool.
- Cook edamame in large saucepan of boiling salted water until tender, 5 minutes. Drain, reserving 3/4 cup cooking liquid.
- Place edamame, oil, and 1/4 cup reserved cooking liquid in processor. Blend until smooth, drizzling in 1/4 cup cooking liquid and lemon juice. Season dip with salt and pepper. Blend in more cooking liquid by tablespoonfuls if too thick. Add minced basil; pulse until basil is just mixed in (do not puree). Transfer dip to bowl. Garnish dip with basil sprigs; serve with pita chips.
