Psalm 139

O Lord, you have examined my heart & know everything about me.

You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.

You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night-but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your worksmanship is marvelous-how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid our before a single day had passed.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
I when I wake up, you are still with me!

We are so blessed! Every day members from the Hope care team come to visit and offer their prayers for Grayson, Erich & myself. And our parents have offerred up lots of prayers with their fellow church friends. It has been an awesome source of strength & comfort in our times of sorrow & stress but we rejoice with them, as well, in our great joys and blessings. Throughout this experience we have probably felt every emotion thinkable. And we can go from one to the next with the drop of a coin. But one thing is for certain, we could not be as strong of a family without our faith. We don't know why any of this happened, but it was part of God's plan before Grayson was ever a thought in our minds. How wonderful and blessed our God is to provide for us and look after our family. Having a child is such a miracle. I look at him and can't even fathom that he is the result of our love for one another. And our love has grown exponentially since having this little addition in our lives.

Grayson's Cares

Every three hours Grayson gets fed & it is also a time for Erich & I to take part in his cares.
Unfortunately when we are back at work we only are at the hospital for 1 or 2 rounds of cares. His "cares" consist of a diaper change, cleaning his mouth with saline & a sponge stick, switching his pulse ox monitor, & taking his temperature. The nurse also listens to his heart & lungs and does her assessments, sometimes his blood glucose is drawn, he gets a bath every few nights, they weigh him at night, Sundays they measure his length & he may be held or have his position changed. We love getting to take part in this....we'll see if down the road we still love his diaper changes that much! This is really the only time we are supposed to disturb him and he is usually pretty alert, then it's back to lots of resting & growing without stimulation.

Grayson's First Christmas!

Daddy gets to kangaroo!

We didn't think we would be celebrating this until next year! It was quite emotional to be new parents to a baby boy during the Christmas season. It brought us whole new meaning to the Christmas story & the birth of Jesus. Christmas will never be the same for us, I'm sure.

Minor Christmas Eve disaster.

They sent me home Thursday the 23rd of December. It was not what I had pictured leaving the hospital would be like. We had no baby with us, no car seat to be fumbling with. But I was very relieved to get home & to see our lonely puppy. We were very grateful to have our friends Kerri & Tyler watch Macy almost every night while we were in the hospital. Then, look at our luck, we were about to go out the door for Christmas Eve church when we heard a crash in the family room. We got a head start on tearing down Christmas decorations. I'm sure our neighbors were slightly confused about the tree being on the curb on Christmas Eve.

Day Number 2!

Kinda hard to see, but Mommy got to hold you for the first time today. We are kangarooing! This is skin to skin holding that is so good for a baby's development & well being. We love it & it definitely helped my milk start to come in : )

This is the NG tube that goes down into the stomach. This is where they feed my breast milk to you.

Welcome to the NICU!

Proud Father

Very excited to see you up close.

We feel so lucky & blessed to be chosen to be your parents Grayson.

Numbered List

They started you on 4 Liters of oxygen and in the mid-afternoon you were taken down to 1 L of oxygen & then by that night you were breathing great on your own & didn't require any supplemental oxygen. All of the doctors & nurses were super impressed, they even coined you a "little rock star!" You were making me & daddy very proud.

This is the monitor in your room. It shows us your heart rate, respiration rate & pulse ox. Sometimes the alarms start ringing at us if things are not looking right, but that rarely happens & you usually correct any real problems quickly on your own.

Dr. Reinsvold briefly had to intubate you to suction a lot of gunk from your lungs & spray some surfactant way down deep.

Checking your Oxygen Saturation. We get to move this from your feet to your wrists with each changing!

15 long inches!
