2 Month Checkup!

Grayson had his 2 month check up with Dr. Eldadah yesterday. Everything was great. He weighed 6 lbs 9 oz which is between the 25th and 50th percentile on the preemie growth chart. He was 18 inches long (up 15 at birth) & his head circumference was 13 1/2 inches. He has even moved out of the preemie sized diapers and clothes and into the newborn sizes. (I'm loving the new wardrobe selection! )They seemed pleased with his growth and development and just told us to keep doing what we're doing. He is eating a little more these days, although it's not always consistent. Sometimes he takes 1.5 oz sometimes 4.0 and it's somewhat hard to know which it's going to be so we gradually heat up bottles if he's chugging it down. Generally we feed him every four hours although he will sleep longer if we don't wake him up at night and sometimes he'll wake up after a couple hours. The doctor thought we shouldn't really go longer than 4 hours until he is closer to 4 mos old. He also told us that because of being a preemie he may be slower to move to "solids" like rice cereal. But knowing Grayson he will probably surprise us! He also had 4 shots yesterday including his Synergist for his RSV protection, his first DTaP, polio, Hib, pneumococcal conjugate, and 2nd Hep B as well as an oral Rotavirus. That will all be repeated again in another 2 mos. He was a trooper though. They had 2 nurses giving him shots at the same time so it was over quicker. There was a brief moment of shrill screams and red face but he quickly calmed down. Afterwards he slept so soundly and ate a bunch. No side effects so far, but I think when he started waking up and kicking around he realized his legs were really sore because he was overly mad while he was being changed before his meals.
Developmentally Grayson is moving forward as well. His head is getting stronger and he will rear it back every once in a while when he's mad or hungry. He smiles a lot, but it's usually after he has just eaten and it's pretty spontaneous. He seems more alert when he is awake now and we will try to hang out with him and keep him awake for a little bit if he isn't begging for food right away. I started reading some of his new books to him. And although he may not get much out of that yet it's good for me to get into that routine. Plus Erich says he is going to be one of those Babies that can read! oh, daddy. He's not quite tracking with his eyes but they sure are big and blue! We'll see what they do in the next few months. One night, while I was pumping, he was in his bassinet and he managed to turn 90 degrees from horizontal to vertical. That little stinker.
Grayson is still sleeping in his bassinet in our room and with his added weight he tends to slide down because we have it propped to prevent spitting up. For now it is more convenient for him to be in our room, but we talked about moving him into his crib a couple months after his due date (which is quickly approaching!!) I'm so much more happy to be cuddling with him than to be 400 lbs and anxiously awaiting labor to start at the most unexpected time.
He loves sleeping during the day in his swing, as well. It's slightly angled and really cozy. We have yet to turn it on while he's in it, but we just put the batteries in so we'll try it soon. He does seem to focus on the little mobile above his head..it's quite the fancy swing. I wish they had an adult size for me.
Well I'm off to fold more laundry : ) Here's to the next wonderful 2 months with our little man!
We love you Grayson!

Morning Lullabies

This is one of my favorite times of day with Grayson. I love when the first thing I see in the morning is a smile on his face with the morning sun glowing on him. It is like an angel is looking down on both of us. I also really love this song, and it's extra special because I found out I was pregnant the night I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert and I didn't get to tell Erich until after the concert. So for that time it was only him and me that were in on the secret, it was so hard to hide my excitement from Ashley and the Gillaspey's that night. But I knew Erich had to be the next to know. So here is a link to the song and the lyrics below....love love.

Yesterday
I woke up

with your head on my arm

My hand was numb

Circulation gone

But I dared not move the pretty sleeping one

The sun had painted
Patterns on your face

As you breathed Sunday air

You rolled onto

My open arm

I became your pillow; you let me smooth your hair

I will sing you morning lullabies

You are beautiful and peaceful this way
I know you have to close your eyes on everyone

Let me help you, I'll sing you to sleep
With morning lullabies
Let me lie in the curve

Of your body tonight
And I will hear you tumble into sleep

I will watch you heal, watch you heal with me.
I will sing you morning lullabies
You are beautiful and peaceful this way
I know you have to close your eyes on everyone

Let me help you, I'll sing you to sleep
With morning lullabies!

My Valentine's

Don't you just want to kiss him!

It's hard to be my Valentine!

How can you not love this guy? I swear I kiss him a thousand times a day. And that's not enough. I certainly have never been more in love with this little man & his daddy. So I definitely loved celebrating V-day with them!

Meeting some Family

cousin hazel & aunt ashley with g-man

Great Grandpa Tom & Grayson.

Uncle TJ & Grayson

We love that our family has been here to help. Especially Grandma : )

Slowly but surely family & friends have been able to come over and meet Grayson. It is great seeing everyone with him, although we can tell that it is sometimes too much stimulation. His feeding and sleeping schedules really get thrown off when he has days with multiple visitors. We're all just trying to do what's best for him!

Mommy & Grayson Time

It has been so great spending time with Grayson at home. Much of the day is spent feeding him, holding him after he feeds, me pumping, washing his bottles, and occasionally letting the dog out or doing a load of laundry. It is also imperative that I have a little caffeine at some point in my day! This pretty much sums it up!

Here are just a bunch of pictures of his time with mom.

Lots of sleepy time!

Bath time every 2-3 days.

And his post bath puffy hair...it is so cute

And you can kind of see the Faux Hawk dad made

Little preppy baby!

Caught him with his eyes open!

More faux hawk

cozy babe loves to curl up with mom! i love it too!

I'm a little over half way throught my time home with Grayson. It is going by fast but I try to appreciate every moment we have together. He is growing so fast, I almost want him to slow down. We are finishing our last pack of preemie diapers and he is just about grown out of his preemie clothes.tear. I just love this little boy!

Hands

with his Great Grandpa

Peekaboo!

Man Hands

I just love Grayson's little hands. I give them kisses everyday. I love watching him hold them together, move them in the air, touch his face, touch my face, pinch his blankets, attempt to hold his bottle, and more recently pulling on my hair. They are so tiny and I know they will one day be big and strong.
