Grayson had his 2 month check up with Dr. Eldadah yesterday. Everything was great. He weighed 6 lbs 9 oz which is between the 25th and 50th percentile on the preemie growth chart. He was 18 inches long (up 15 at birth) & his head circumference was 13 1/2 inches. He has even moved out of the preemie sized diapers and clothes and into the newborn sizes. (I'm loving the new wardrobe selection! )They seemed pleased with his growth and development and just told us to keep doing what we're doing. He is eating a little more these days, although it's not always consistent. Sometimes he takes 1.5 oz sometimes 4.0 and it's somewhat hard to know which it's going to be so we gradually heat up bottles if he's chugging it down. Generally we feed him every four hours although he will sleep longer if we don't wake him up at night and sometimes he'll wake up after a couple hours. The doctor thought we shouldn't really go longer than 4 hours until he is closer to 4 mos old. He also told us that because of being a preemie he may be slower to move to "solids" like rice cereal. But knowing Grayson he will probably surprise us! He also had 4 shots yesterday including his Synergist for his RSV protection, his first DTaP, polio, Hib, pneumococcal conjugate, and 2nd Hep B as well as an oral Rotavirus. That will all be repeated again in another 2 mos. He was a trooper though. They had 2 nurses giving him shots at the same time so it was over quicker. There was a brief moment of shrill screams and red face but he quickly calmed down. Afterwards he slept so soundly and ate a bunch. No side effects so far, but I think when he started waking up and kicking around he realized his legs were really sore because he was overly mad while he was being changed before his meals.
Developmentally Grayson is moving forward as well. His head is getting stronger and he will rear it back every once in a while when he's mad or hungry. He smiles a lot, but it's usually after he has just eaten and it's pretty spontaneous. He seems more alert when he is awake now and we will try to hang out with him and keep him awake for a little bit if he isn't begging for food right away. I started reading some of his new books to him. And although he may not get much out of that yet it's good for me to get into that routine. Plus Erich says he is going to be one of those Babies that can read! oh, daddy. He's not quite tracking with his eyes but they sure are big and blue! We'll see what they do in the next few months. One night, while I was pumping, he was in his bassinet and he managed to turn 90 degrees from horizontal to vertical. That little stinker.
Grayson is still sleeping in his bassinet in our room and with his added weight he tends to slide down because we have it propped to prevent spitting up. For now it is more convenient for him to be in our room, but we talked about moving him into his crib a couple months after his due date (which is quickly approaching!!) I'm so much more happy to be cuddling with him than to be 400 lbs and anxiously awaiting labor to start at the most unexpected time.
He loves sleeping during the day in his swing, as well. It's slightly angled and really cozy. We have yet to turn it on while he's in it, but we just put the batteries in so we'll try it soon. He does seem to focus on the little mobile above his head..it's quite the fancy swing. I wish they had an adult size for me.
Well I'm off to fold more laundry : ) Here's to the next wonderful 2 months with our little man!
We love you Grayson!

Glad to hear it all went so well! Lucky that Grayson had a group of nurses to get the shots over quicker! Did he like the sugary Rotavirus vaccine?
P.S. No, we didn't realize that the bird was being flipped in the picture of the cousins. We'll have to have a talk with Hazel about that one.
